Tel Aviv is a vibrant city, known for its beach life and the hustle and bustle of a modern urban center. Influenced by European sensibilities and the rich cultural blend of Middle Eastern and diaspora traditions, Tel Aviv became the first "Jewish city" in two thousand years!
Due to early wars and economic hardship, much of its architecture is unremarkable, yet the city possesses a unique charm that is difficult to define. An early mix of Russian and Middle Eastern architectural styles gradually gave way to the Bauhaus influence introduced by German architects who arrived before World War II.
Today, much of this historic character is being overshadowed by the rise of sleek glass skyscrapers, similar to those seen from New York to Bangkok.
In this work, I sought to capture Tel Aviv in the early morning, before the streets fill with people, cars, and the rhythms of daily life. The scene depicts Shenkin Street meeting Nahalat Binyamin, with the street leading down to the beach, where it meets the text calligraphed onto a clear blue dotted sky.
