The Dock #2 (Hotel Utopia Series) original

Pulling away from the dock
the chair becomes a poorly cast bit player in a nature scene
Insects buzz the wet black surface of the cool lake.
We steadily pull away
the reflections becoming longer
on the mirrored surface.

  As I stern the canoe into the open waters, 
my son continues to take photos of the island and the lone chair.
The water is black and a loon calls out to its mate.
 I feel pangs of nature’s beauty and flashes of nostalgia, as I imagine painting
this scene on canvas..
